Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown details multiplayer mode

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown F/A-18 Trailer

We’re only a short few weeks away from the launch of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and people are pretty excited. The latest entry into the aerial combat sim is bringing a bunch of new features on board, and now Bandai Namco has unveiled some new details about the multiplayer modes that will be in the game.

There are two online modes, Battle Royale, and Team Deathmatch, with each one remaining fairly true to its name. Both modes include 8 players, with a points-based system determining the victor. Points can be scored by damaging or shooting down enemies. The game will also award Star Marks to skilled pilots. Think of these like visible kill streak marks. Fly well and you can earn up to three of these Marks in a match. But look out, players can earn extra points by shooting down a plane with a higher number of Marks, so the Marks are basically a target on your back if you have them.

In Team Deathmatch, two teams of four face off, with the winning team being either the ones who score a predetermined amount of points first, or the team with the most points when time runs out. Battle Royale mode has 8 players in a free-for-all match, but with same basic scoring system of Team Deathmatch.

And if you’re looking for that terrifying and immersive weather system from the campaign to show up, don’t worry, because multiplayer modes will have all those systems too. So expect to be dodging lightning, strong winds and the like during multiplayer matches.

And just like in the Campaign, plane customization will be in the multiplayer section. Players can alter the look and abilities of their planes for use in the multiplayer modes. Any Emblems or other visual customizations earned in singleplayer will be usable in multiplayer as well.

And that’s not all that Bandai Namco released about Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown this week. We also got some highlight trailers detailing various iconic aircraft from the franchise. One featured the MiG-31B, there was also one for the Typhoon jet, and then another putting the spotlight on the F/A-18F.

If you want to get a more firm grasp on what the game will be like on release, there’s plenty of gameplay and other info to check out. You might want to check out the Collector’s Edition which features a scale model and the DLC season pass, if you’re a hardcore fan that is. There’s also a ton of screenshots showing gameplay elements and story to take a peek at. There’s also another longer bit of gameplay showing the “Long Day” mission.

Bandai Namco also released some new screenshots showing the multiplayer in action, check those out below.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will be available on January 18, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version will follow a few days later on February 1.
