Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the next infusion of the reborn classic JRPG, is coming soon. The release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been teased, along with multiple cinematic and gameplay elements. The game is currently slated for February 29, 2024, according to the game’s showcase during the September 2023 PlayStation State of Play.
OK, so it’s not too soon, but it’s going to be great to get our hands on the latest entry in the reborn franchise. Cloud, Tifa, and the rest of the gang are coming in hot with a revamped combat system and an even more polished look. How closely it follows the story of the original and how far it will take us remains to be seen, but there’s a lot to be seen already.
According to a statement from producer Yoshinori Kitase, the upcoming entry “will feature elements from the previous game, as well as greatly enhanced features such as the vast world map to explore and synergy abilities with party members.” It’s also pretty likely that we’ll see a lot of refinement of the gameplay and narrative elements from the source material. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will include many different elements from the original game to give fans a nod, but also likely to improve on the way those elements are presented.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi also revealed that the game “embraces the concept of free exploration,” which highlights the fact that Square Enix has spent time reworking combat encounters and designing enemies to fit such a design. There will also likely be a bunch of mini-games and random side quests you can discover as well.
