Creative Assembly have released a new trailer for Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia. This time the spotlight is on how political and diplomatic issues will shape the course of any given game. As well as how much shmoozing and backstabbing you’ll have to do to seize power.

A lot of series favorites have been brought back and fleshed out for Thrones of Britannia. The first example we see is that generals still have a loyalty rating, which your enemies can use against you, but the player now has options to try and improve that loyalty. From getting the general married, all the way to “ruling with an iron fist”, the player can chose one path or another to deal with a problem. Another example we see is that distributing your newly conquered holdings is a major part of keeping the peace among the nobles.

Aside from loyalty, there are other starting and randomly assigned traits that affect the abilities of both your king and nobles. Managing these other aspects such as Command and Influence are vital to success in the game.

The video demonstrates some of the scenarios that may occur as you attempt to control the fractured British Isles. Bribery and even political assassination are all options but remember everything has repercussions. There’s a fair bit of variance depending on the choices the player makes. It’s very likely that over the course of the game you’ll experience everything from a traitorous general to a full scale rebellion.
