Mortal Kombat 11’s Latest Trailer Reveals Kung Lao, Liu Kang, and Jax as Playable Fighters

Mortal Kombat 11’s Trailer Reveals Kung Lao, Liu Kang, and Jax

As a capstone moment of Sony’s Playstation State of Play live stream today, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios has unleashed yet another new trailer for the upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat 11.

The big announcement from this new trailer is that three famous characters from the earlier games in the franchise are making their way back into the fighting arena. Superstar lead character Liu Kang is bicycle-kicking his way back to the brawl for example. He debuted in the original arcade game, and has featured in the series throughout it’s run in some form. Next up in the reveal order is Kung Lao, the EarthRealm fighter made his debut in Mortal Kombat II. His deadly bladed hat is directly drawn from he 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger, in which the character Oddjob throws his derby hat as a deadly weapon.  Finally, there’s Jax, who also debuted in Mortal Kombat II. The ultra-powered melee brawler uses his augmented body to beat his enemies into submission.

The trailer itself compares the origins of each of these three fighters compared to their more contemporary versions. This comparison is also deeply rooted in the story of MK 11, with all the temporal distortions and other nonsense going on. We’re dealing with a time travel plot here, so we can expect some weird things like this comparison to occur.

Jade is also coming back to the game. Another trailer revealed recently showed the deadly comeback of the Mayan terror, Kotal Kahn. The most recent on both revealed the return of secret character Noob Saibot, and the return of Shang Tsung as a DLC fighter

Mortal Kombat 11 will release for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch on April 23. Check out the new reveal trailers for these two new fighters down below.  If you want to pick up the game, go grab MK 11 on Amazon.
