Xenonauts 2 starts its crowdfunding drive with a demo

Xenonauts

Xenonauts 2 is headed for a new mission. The sequel to the spiritual successor to the original X-COM games has launched a Kickstarter this week.

The team behind the game, Goldhawk Interactive, want to create the best version of their ideal game with this sequel. In short, it’s more of the same from Xenonauts, but better. The tactical combat is extremely similar to the older games in the franchise, but there are plans to incorporate to strategic layers from the modern XCOM games by Firaxis, like base-building.

Xenonauts 2 is a needed update on the original game’s concept, taking the same story outline and adding some new twists and turns.. The cold war setting returns, so your initial encounters with the aliens will see your squads wielding standard period-correct infantry gear that’s very poorly suited to dealing with an extraterrestrial invasion. Managing your base is also a challenge as you’ll need to deal with ever-increasing difficulty and enemy strength by researching new tech, all while keeping your army fed and making sure the lights stay on.

Check out the promo trailer for the campaign below. There’s a short demo available as well. Xenonauts 2 is on Kickstarter now, and £18 will get you a copy of the game when it’s done, estimated at sometime around November. There’s also a playable demo here.

The campaign is roughly at $45,000 out of a $65,000 goal at the time of writing. They have just shy of 30 days left. So things are looking very good so far, assuming a comparable level of support is maintained after this first day.
