The Wonderful 101

The Wonderful 101: Remastered has a firm release date now, with both the PC and console ports getting a release this May. The remaster is a pretty simple affair, so if you missed out on this very unique title when it was first released, no is your chance to get in on the fun. Those who backed the game on Kickstarter will get it a bit ahead though, sometime in April.

The Wonderful 101: Remastered is the first of the new Platinum 4 initiative undertaken by PlatinumGames. PlatinumGames is well known for its incredibly weird, but always charming, titles that explore some very unique concepts. Legions of superheroes stuck in a cooky anime world like in Wonderful 101: Remastered i is a very strong distillation of their brand in gaming.

And now we also know that the second game in this new self-publishing effort is Project G.G.

Having the remaster on PS4, PC and Switch is great, because it gives folks on hardware other than Nintendo platforms a chance to experience this game in all its glory. And that glory is a very passionate part of the plan the developer seems to have for this, and future, games.

“I felt there was an imbalance in the number of people who actually got to play [The Wonderful 101] compared to the amount of passion and quality that was put into creating it,” said producer Atsushi Inaba when speaking about the project. For this particular project, all the factors seemed to come together for crowdfunding to make sense. The fact that we wanted to revisit the game, the fact Nintendo allowed us to do it and the timing was good. So we consider this a very unique case.”

The remaster came about because of fan support, pure and simple. The Kickstarter campaign for the game raised a huge chunk of change, and along with investment from Chinese mega-firm Tencent, brought this remaster to market for a new console generation.

The Wonderful 101: Remastered comes to Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on May 19 in North America and May 22 in Europe.
