Rooster Teeth, Kinda Funny and more fundraise for gaming diversity

Play it Forward Charity Livestream Announced

The IGDA Foundation has announced a new fundraising effort to raise money and awareness for various organizations working to help make gaming more inclusive and welcoming for all. The effort will be an 8-hour livestream which features voices from content creation outfits, gaming charity groups, and other organizations in the scene. It’s called Play It Forward, and it’s really something special.

Play It Forward will feature a variety of speakers who will discuss a variety of issues surrounding inclusiveness in games. The event will feature individuals from organizations like Rooster Teeth and Kinda Funny, and many more. Organizers will work with companies like Shacknews, Greenlit Content, HyperX, and ReKTGlobal to help put on the event.

“Helping bring so many amazing people together to support Play It Forward has been a real joy,” said Asif Khan, CEO of Shacknews. “The IGDA Foundation’s mission of inclusion and representation in the games industry is an extremely important endeavor, and we couldn’t be more excited to help amplify the voices of its members and serve the goals of the foundation.”

The Play It Forward livestream will be hosted by Kahlief Adams of Spawn on Me. Spawn on Me is a podcast spotlighting people of color in the gaming industry, and wants to use Play It Forward to help further that goal, along with the many other issues being discussed. Play It Forward will have speakers on to talk about Black representation in games, among other issues. Various speakers will also discuss issues like online harassment as well.

Trans issues will also be spotlighted during the event. Kdin Jenzen from Rooster Teeth will be on hand to talk about trans acceptance and representation. Other speakers will include Greg Miller from Kinda Funny, Elyse Willems from Funhaus, and Steven Spohn of AbleGamers offer supporting voices about how to be a good ally to those working on these issues.

And it’s not all about talks and heavy issues. Between each discussion, there will be gameplay footage streamed by various players, and viewers are encouraged to donate and support the effort. The organizers are hoping to raise $10,000 dollars for the IGDA Foundation Online Diversity Program.

Play It Forward will be hosted on the Shacknews Twitch channel, and run from 10am PT – 6pm PT.
