No Man’s Sky Abyss Update adds new underwater missions and content

No Man's Sky Announces Abyss Update

The latest content update for the controversial exploration game, No Man’s Sky has finally landed just in time for Halloween. And instead of exploring the starry skies, players will be taken into dark waters with The Abyss.

The Abyss adds a new layer of exploration to No Man’s Sky, with tons of new aquatic content. But don’t distress, this ain’t the Minecraft Aquatic Update. And while you may encounter dolphins and other sea creatures, they might try to eat your face.

In terms of content, it’s a much smaller compared to the massive NEXT update, although it does feature a much tighter focus on immersive gameplay as a result. Whereas NEXT made changes to fundamental systems in the game and added multiplayer, The Abyss adds undersea missions and vehicles, as well as some new assets to the procedural generation system.

Hello Games is pushing this most recent update a subtle tone shift for their flagship game, in a press release, Sean Murray said the following:

We wanted to focus on improving underwater, and also on some of the eerier elements of the game for Halloween. Oceans were always vast in size in No Man’s Sky, but are now a huge, deep part of our gameplay.

No Man’s Sky and The Abyss updates are available now for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the launch trailer for this content update down below.
