Nioh 2 has gone gold, is ready to ship

Nioh 2 Story Trailer

Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have an announcement for fans of action game series Nioh, the hyped-up sequel is gold. That means that initial development is complete and it’s heading to production. The game launches on March 13th for the PlayStation 4. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have been working on Nioh 2 for some time, building out the experience with fan feedback in mind.

Nioh 2 even got multiple closed testing periods wherein gamers were tasked with both finding bugs and helping to improve gameplay. Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja released a report after the last closed beta test that showed how players and fans responded to the current state of the game. Though many were generally positive about how Nioh 2 was shaping up, some changes needed to be made.

Koei Tecmo made a variety of changes to the gameplay. Bosses, which are a core part of the experience, were tweaked in a few different ways. The costs of upgrading abilities from the Soul Cores you pick up from slain enemies were adjusted, for example. These changes led to a storm of hype, as more than 700,000 people downloaded the open beta of the game.

As we have seen in some previously released gameplay, the game centers around the frantic conflict against a mysterious invasive force called the Yokai. These nightmarish otherworldly entities have infested Fuedal Japan, and it’s the job fo elite warriors to drive them back. Somehow, these same warriors have managed to tame some elements of the Yokai and use it to their advantage in battle. Much like the first game, Team Ninja has created a world where you will need all the help you can get to overcome these foes.

The developers have also made it clear that Nioh 2 will be getting some post-launch support. Namely, the action game will be getting three DLC packs with different kinds of new content. There will be new missions, enemies and other added content in each DLC pack, and some of the releases will include “new weapons, new combat abilities and new characters.” And yes, those who are interested can get all three items as a Season Pass. And each DLC pack will also be included in the Digital Deluxe Edition too.

Nioh 2 will be released on March 13th for the PlayStation 4. Check out the latest story trailer for the game, if you want to know more about this strange and dark world.
