How To Beat The Lurking Steel Titan in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Path of Legends in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is one of several main elements of the story that the player has to complete. Think of them as training missions for Tera raids, as the boss battles that feature in the Titans are basically multi-phase Tera Raids. Players are tasked with tracking down and defeating all five of these massive monsters, and it’s not going to be easy. The Lurking Steel Titan in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is one of the first real challenges you’re gong to get.

Players first encounter the Path of Legends with the Open Sky Titan, a level 19 encounter. This one is a pretty big jump up from that. And before that, you will have to beat the Stony Cliff Titan. This guide will help Pokemon Scarlet & Violet players find and defeat the Lurking Steel Titan, Orthworm.

Once you’ve taken down Kofu and the third Gym, you will be able to command and capture Pokemon up to level 35, this will be the time to begin training for the next Titan. Found deep in East Province (Area Three), you’ll need to look underground, as it burrows to get around. The Lurking Steel Titan is located on the East side of the map at East Province, Area Three. The titan is also marked on the map like the others, so just head to the map marker and start looking around. Head out via Levincia City towards the marker and look for an open pit in the big mining area in this zone. Avoid the tunnels around the zone, and head towards the middle of the area.

The destination is the area’s watchtower and the giant fenced-off area in that location. Inside the fence, you will see a giant worm-like head poking out of the ground, that’s the Titan. Head over and it will pop underground. Repeat this process and it will jump out to confront you.

How To Beat The Lurking Steel Titan in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Lurking Steel Titan is a Level 30 encounter and some Titans vary based on the type of game you’re playing. In this case, it will always be the same Pokemon. Orthworm is a pure Steel-type, making it susceptible to some choice moves. Steel-types are especially weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves, while being super effective against Rock, Fairy, and Ice-types. Keep that in mind when picking the Pokemon to bring. Orthworm is not weak to Ground (unlike other Steel Pokémon) due to its special ability, which makes it immune. So don’t bring Clodsire or use Ground-type moves. If you picked Crocalor as your starter, you should have a very easy time here. Growlithe is a great backup as long as it has a solid Speed stat. Anything weak to Ground-type moves is a bad option, as Orthworm does have some powerful Ground-type moves.

Phase 1 is the same as the previous Titans, just wail on the monster until its HP drops. Don’t waste your Terastalize on this first part, save it for later. Once beaten, the Titan will dig a hole to get away from you, and you will have to chase it down. Follow it and then it’ll eat a special herb again. Arven shows up to help again, bringing his own Pokemon to the brawl.

Arven will bring a Toedscool to help deal damage, but you should be fine if you brought a good type matchup. The boss will trigger Sandstorm pretty often, and most of the time will use moves like Headbutt to deal damage.

Beat it down one more time, and you win! You’ll get a Herba Mystica after the fight is over. Feeding this to your buddy will allow them to jump higher, use that to reach higher ledges.

Once you’ve beaten the Lurking Steel Titan in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, you will have a pretty big jump to the next challenge. The Quaking Earth Titan is level 45 and can deal massive damage if not dealt with swiftly. From here, you could take on the Open Sky Titan, or move on and start training to take on the Dark Crew. After that, you’re going to want to take on Iono and her Electric Gym, along with Mela and the Fire Crew.
