The Outer Worlds has some new companion-focused gameplay
Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division have released some new gameplay footage of their upcoming RPG, The Outer Worlds.
This new video is all about companions, and just how useful they can be in The Outer Worlds. The companions in this game work a lot like the Pawns from the Dragon’s Dogma series. What with the companions grabbing agro or helping the player deal damage. The companions also come pre-loaded with tons of useful and unique abilities, effectively making them an essential part of any gear loadout in The Outer Worlds.
For those who haven’t heard of this game, you’re in for a treat. In The Outer Worlds, you awake from hibernation on a colonist ship that was lost in transit to Halcyon, a distant human colony on the edge of known space. Things very quickly spiral out of control as you end up uncovering a massive conspiracy to seize power. The resulting conflict between factions competing for power and influence threatens to destroy the entire colony, and to end the lives of many. And of course it’s up to you to stop it. As you travel your way across the vast reaches of space and encounter many deadly factions, how you handle them and deal with their challenges will affect the path of your game.
And being that this is an expansive RPG by Obsidian, expect plenty of depth and intrigue. The game world is being built with a sense of immersion in mind. Players won’t be perfect, and neither will the NPCs and factions they encounter. There’s very much a moral grey area at play in this game. And this system extends to the companions as well. Each selection will have their own flaws as well, making the choice of who follows you into battle even more important, as certain choices could affect both gameplay and story paths in unpredictable ways.
