In Diablo II: Resurrected, Mercenaries (also called mercs or hirelings) fight alongside you and help you farm for loot. They are a lot more useful in your fight to save Sanctuary than you might remember. THese NPCs can be used to help clear out maps, and take down bosses. They can even be customized.
Here’s the act where each merc is located. The locations of each mercenary in Diablo 2 Resurrected is set, and you will unlock them as you play through the game. There is one choice in each act. Each Act has a set of weapons that they use. For example, Act 1 mercs use bows. And yes, their levels scale with the difficulty. And yes, unlike the original game, you can equip these helpers with new items. This is a huge improvement over the original incarnation of this mechanic.
When you want to hire a mercenary in Diablo 2 Resurrected, use the list below to know where each one is located. Head to the spots listed below and pay them gold to have them join your party.

By pressing the O button, players will get access to their mercenary’s inventory screen. You can add armor, weapons and helmets to your mercenaries on this screen. You armor and weapons added to them will give them stat boosts, which you can see the impact of on this screen.
One thing to remember is that Difficulty is what affects the level of a mercenary in Diablo 2 Resurrected. On Normal Difficulty, the mercenaries in D2R will range from level 9 to 13. With Nightmare, they go from 44 to 47. When you move to Hell, they get moved up to 75, and top out at 79.
