Path of Exile getting more skill reworks in 3.6 update

Path of Exile Betrayal League
Path of Exile’s 3.6 expansion, Synthesis League, has been announced.

Path of Exile 3.6 is getting a full announcement tomorrow, but the wait time has fans giddy with anticipation. To help assuage the anxiety and hype of fans until tomorrow, GGG has just released the details of another skill rework coming to the game in the new expansion. Path of Exile 3.6 includes many other skill reworks as well, GGG already teased another with a previously revealed addressing of Flame Totem.

Next up though for a bit of attention is the projectile-based Lightning skill, Storm Burst.

Storm Burst currently is a pretty underutilized skill, with most builds in the current meta-game opting for Arc or other high-powered skills. Since Storm Burst is one of the newer skills which requires channeling, many players opt for skills that allow them to be more mobile while casting. Since it’s introduction in 3.0, Storm Burst has needed some attention.

GGG is addressing the issues with the skill by changing the way it works. The skill is no longer projectile based, removing the requirement of additional projectiles supports. The new mechanics and interactions will be based around area and duration, with some included physical to lightning conversion.

Players who use Storm Burst can channel the skill, sending out a chain of lightning orbs, and as long as the skill is channeled, these orbs will move toward your opponents. The orbs will explode, dealing area-of-effect damage, when either the full spell duration is achieved or channeling is cancelled.

This new skill could open up some potential for interesting AoE spell builds, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see the new League mechanics to be able to decide the place in the meta for this new skill.

In the meantime while we wait to learn more, why not take a look at all the content and reworks that have been teased for Path of Exile 3.6 so far. GGG also released another Hideout teaser this week as well.
