How to Swim Faster in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Guide to Diving and Swimming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

With the new swimming update in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you will get to take a nice relaxing swim into the ocean. You used to not be able to do that, so Nintendo has given us something else to do. Along with the patch, a bunch of new deep-sea creatures and crafting recipes have been added to the game. To get them all, you’re going to need to swim out into the water. The patch is adding diving and swimming, but that’s not all.

To get started, you need to head to the Nook Terminal inside Resident Services and buy both a Wet Suit and Snorkel. With those equipped, you can begin. Either jump off a rock outcropping or dock with the A button to being swimming. Or alternatively, you can just walk out in the surf by pressing A while wearing the wet suit and snorkel. These don’t break while using them, so you only have to buy one set.

As you swim around your island, you will see little bubbles popping up from the floor of the ocean. Swim over to them and then press the Y button; this will cause you to dive down, you can then swim toward the shadow you see underwater and get a deep-sea creature.

Although there’s one thing to keep in mind when you don’t want to take a bunch of time swimming around. you can swim faster in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here’s how to do that.

How to Swim Faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

To swim normally, just hold down the A button while pushing the analog stick in the direction you want to go. That will have your character slowly swim in one direction, but it will take forever to get all the way around your island at that pace. To swim faster in ACNH, you need to keep hammering the A button instead of just holding it, with this technique you will swim a bit faster.

This ability also works underwater. That’s useful because when you’re diving after a shell or other creature they will sometimes swim away from you. You will need to chase after them and your character should automatically grab them when you get close. The best approach though is to dive down right on top of the bubbles, that way you’re right on top of the shadow you’re after.
