Chara-ani is heading up work on the PS4 ports of Langrisser I&II for Japanese markets, and their work is almost done. The company has announced that Langrisser I&II will be available on the Japanese PlayStation Store and the Japanese Nintendo eShop on February 7. The demo will encompass a handful of stages from each of the two games. The Langrisser I section covers parts 1 through 3, while the Langrisser II parts cover sections 4 to 6.
The demo will include a “Classic Mode”, this addition will allow gamers to experience the original games recreated from the original Sega Mega Drive versions. The main game will also include a variety of new additions for both Switch and PS4. Composer Noriyuki Iwadare will work on some new music compositions for the remake, for example. The game will also include new graphics, as well as few new characters and plotlines being specially made for this remake.
There’s also the newly detailed Class Tree system. This system will allow characters you use to accrue Class Points as they level up. And you can tailor their builds using these points in different areas. Characters can switch between different Classes at any time as well. So players used to other tactical RPGs should be right at home here.
If you have no idea what these games are, let me explain. Langrisser I&II are a pair of strategy RPG titles originally developed for the Sega Mega Drive and Super Famicom. The tactical RPG elements of these games share some similarities with other staple genre titles like Fire Emblem, but depart quite a bit from genre conventions in other areas. An expansive roster of characters and a ton of story elements made for one of the more engaging niche titles in the genre of that generation.
Since their original release, the franchise has garnered a bit of a hardcore following, even leading to multiple remakes and offshoots. The most recent attempt at remaking the franchise, Langrisser Mobile, just launched. And now, the newest attempt to breathe new life into the classic series is headed to some new platforms.
Langrisser I&II will be available in Japan for PS4 and Switch on March 18. You can check out some screenshots down below showing the game in greater detail. No plans have currently been announced to create a Western demo for the game ahead of launch.
