How to find and catch an Oarfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

With all of the different resources, including fish and bugs, in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are a bunch of different things you can do. Players will most often sell this loot for Bells, but they are also often used in various crafting recipes. One of the more sought-after fish is the Oarfish. The Oarfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is seemingly one of the harder to find items in the island paradise players live in.

To find the Oarfish, players will have to head onto the shore of their islands and look for fish spawns. There are a couple of restrictions on Oarfish and when they can spawn. It does not appear to matter about the time of day, but the date does matter. The Oarfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will only spawn between December and May. There is a ton of luck involved, but spotting it is pretty easy, just look for the fish in the water with the largest shadow.

So in short, just look for the largest shadow in the sea between December and May.

ou can sell the Oarfish to the Nooks for 9000 Bells, which makes it a great catch if you’re farming them for currency. To make the spawns more reliable, be sure to bring some Fish Bait.

How to get Fish Bait

Fish Bait in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is something that will eventually become a necessity at some point in the game. Whether you’re out farming for fish or digging for Fossils, you’re going to eventually come across what you need to get the Fish Bait. This bait will make it easier to catch to Oarfish, as well as other needed resources.

To get Fish Bait, you will first need to find a Manila Clam. When out fishing or otherwise on the beach of your island, be on the lookout for a small shadow in the sand. When you see one, run over and dig it with the Shovel, this will yield the Manila Clam. The recipe for Fish Bait should be unlocked at this point via the Workbench, head over and craft some.

Once you have the bait, choose “Scatter Food” from the interactable menu when standing near a stream or the sea, and the bait will be cast. You can then fish with a higher chance of a good catch.
