Zombie villagers are a big pain in Minecraft. When the rather annoying and destructive zombies invade a village, you will often find your pals getting zombified. It’s a pretty big deal, and you need to undo the damage. The zombie virus is often not curable in zombie fiction, but that’s not true in Minecraft. Mojang’s hit allows players to cure a zombie villager. Here’s what you need to do to get that done.
How to Cure a Zombie Villager in Minecraft
You need to do things in this order to cure a zombie villager:
- Apply Weakness to a Zombie Villager
- Use a Golden Apple to apply the cure to the weakened Zombie.
- A randomized timer, between three and five minutes, will count down.
- When the time expires the zombie villager will be cured.
How to apply Weakness
There are a few different ways to apply this status to a target. Splash Potions of Weakness are the best way, but you do have other options. To make a Splash Potion of Weakness, you will need 1 Potion of Weakness and 1 gunpowder. Place the Potion of Weakness (1:30) in one of the bottom boxes in the Brewing Stand menu. Then add the gunpowder to the top box.

- Lingering Cloud from a Lingering Potion of Weakness
- Lingering Cloud from a Creeper Explosion
- Arrow of Weakness

Once you have applied the Weakness status, it’s time to apply the Golden Apple. You will know it’s time to do this step as you will see dark squiggles coming off of the zombie villager. The Golden Apple can be crafted by placing an Apple in the Crafting Table and surrounding it with eight pieces of golden nuggets.
After you have the squiggle-covered zombie villager, apply the Golden Apple to kick off the timer and begin curing them. Voila! You have now cured a Zombie Villager in Minecraft.
You could also get into automating the creation and curing of zombie villagers if you’re the mad scientist type. Splash potions can be launched from dispensers, so if you have a way to automate the other parts—and you might if you get creative—you could have a whole assembly line dealing with the zombie outbreak.
