The newest PS4 horror title just dropped a brand new trailer, showing some of the eerie and terrifying locales of the iconic film franchise upon which it’s based. Of course Ii’m talking about Blair Witch, a new horror game that just announced a new release date for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game was previously not coming to the platform, as well as some PC outlets, but now a PS4 release is confirmed.
The story follows a simple setup, borrowed right from the films, with some new twists. You play as a disgraced cop who has been drawn into the legendary Black Hills Forest in Maryland in search of a lost child. But don’t worry, you’re not alone, as you have a faithful doggy along for the ride too.
Here’s the full description from the developers:
“Blair Witch offers fans, and players alike, their own descent into madness through an original story inspired by Lionsgate’s iconic Blair Witch. Set in 1996, a young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. Players experience the horror as Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, accompanied by his trustful canine companion, Bullet. Their story starts as they join the search for the missing boy, but players shortly discover the horrors that await as the woods twist and turn into an endless nightmare. Ellis will have to confront his fears, and his past, along with the mysterious force that haunts the woods.”
The gameplay will utilize this thematic trapping to hipefully great effect, as mind-bending twists and turns become the new norm for the player. Developers Bloober Team are well-known for various horror games with unique takes on the “walking sim” theme, so expect much more of the same from Blair Witch. Expect a fair amount of the game messing with your expectations. Bloober Team better hope someone doesn’t have to go all John Wick on the bad guys if that dog bites it though.
Xbox One and PC versions of Blair Witch will also get a special DLC pack for those releases. Called the “Good Boy Pack”, it centers around your loyal canine companion. There’s also a bit of a weird choice in there too, as the DLC also packs in addons for your in-game cellphone. There are a number of new dog skins, as well as in-game cellphone games and wallpapers.
You can see the trailer down below. If you want to learn more about the game, check out the official site. The game releases for the PS4 on December 3rd, and will be priced at $29.99.
