Dragon’s Dogma 2 Announced

Dragon's Dogma 2 Revealed

Capcom is bringing back the weirdly appealing classic RPG, complete with a new engine and completely new storyline. Dragon’s Dogma 2 was announced during a live stream event for the original game’s 10th anniversary, and it has fans extremely excited to continue the journey of the Arisen. And with a new game coming out finally after so many years, fans are curious about what to expect.

The 10th anniversary saw director Hideaki Itsuno go over the history of Dragon’s Dogma. He talks a lot about the game’s inspiration being drawn from classic RPGs and tabletop games, and how that helped the team nail the feeling of playing D&D with a well-oiled party, the core gameplay experience that the game really nails. That feeling will likely continue into Dragon’s Dogma 2. And given how much the original game helped inspire other properties like Monster Hunter, it will be very interesting to see where the new game innovates.

One of the big reveals is that the game will use the RE Engine, the same engine core that has powered the recent Resident Evil remakes. That should mean that this new ARPG will look visually stunning. The new engine should help set the sequel apart from the other classic entry, which has gotten very long in the tooth at this point. That age hasn’t stopped fans from loving it, and ports were released for the Switch and other platforms. The news is pretty sparse at this point, as the game is still in the very early days of development.

We did get to see some early footage ostensibly from the sequel. Many of the iconic monsters have returned, with the new game taking place seemingly in the same locales as the first. Check out the trailer below.

This has shown a busy period for Capcom, announcing Street Fighter 6 and also the DLC for Resident Evil 8. Hopefully more info will come soon on Dragon’s Dogma 2.
