Can You Sleep With Characters Without Romancing Them in BG3

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a ton of really cool features. There’s accessibility aids, there are tons of storylines and quests, and so much more. Sure, the game can weigh things in your favor with mechanics like Karmic Dice, but there’s things you’re supposed to be doing to buff your team. Items like Soul Coins can be used to add a buff to your party members as well. And all that comes on top of classic CRPG flair. Like many CRPGs, hunting for loot is a core mechanic of the game. And just like many RPGs in the modern area, there’s tons of storytelling to mess around with.

One of the options you’ll encounter in your time with the same is the bevy of romance quests and other side content in BG3. Romance with your party members is an option during your Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough if you can get them to like you well enough. There’s a whole relationship and trust system in the game that reflects how much a given party member likes you.

The game spends a ton of effort on making your party likable and cool, and plenty of players will be just fine with palling around with them, collecting loot. But some folks may want more. You might merely want to explore a more intimate form of relationship with your characters. So that leaves us with a question. Can you sleep with characters without romancing them in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The simple answer is that, no, you have to complete the romance conditions to trigger any romance-related scenes. While romance might not be required in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have to work to achieve it.

The system isn’t specifically always tied to quest completion, but there are conditions for each character. Some more open characters will be more inclined to sleep with you almost right away. Some characters may need to feel more comfortable with you before that happens. Karlach is one option where depending on your choices in quests and other party interactions. If you act like too much of a butthead, some party members won’t even tolerate your presence. Most party members are like that. You need to understand how each character works to be able to romance a party member in Baldur’s Gate 3.

It’s important to understand why, and Larian’s decision to make this part of the game have a set path makes sense.  They want to make it so that relationships are supposed to feel real, and your actions will have consequences.
