How to Change Dice Skin in BG3

Baldur’s Gate 3

The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 is making a ton of waves, and for all the right reasons. There’s so much to have fun with here, and the writing, gameplay and other elements are just pure excellence. There’s accessibility aids, there are tons of storylines and quests, and so much more. Sure, the game can weigh things in your favor with mechanics like Karmic Dice, but there’s things you’re supposed to be doing to buff your team. Items like Soul Coins can be used to add a buff to your party members as well. And all that comes on top of classic CRPG flair.

And with all the dice flying around, things are getting a bit chaotic. And with that comes the urge to get more shiny rocks for your collection. Larian even added something you might not expect, Dice Skins. A special skin for your dice is pretty cool, and a pretty simple way to make the game feel just that little bit more unique. Dice goblins love their sparkly math rocks after all. Unfortunately, the game tutorials fail to explain exactly how to unlock these things, and how to change them.

How to change your Dice Skin in Baldur’s Gate 3

Dice Skins in Baldur’s Gate 3 can only be changed while rolling. that’s meant to help in co-op when you need to differentiate between who is rolling at the moment. To change dice skin, you need to trigger the roll menu first. So go find something like a lock to pick or trap to disarm to trigger the menu. Then, look for the Customize Dice Skin option in the menu’s bottom left corner. Click this to choose from your unlocked skins.

Here are the current varieties of Dice Skin in Baldur’s Gate 3 and how you get them:

  • Scuffed Metal – Default Skin
  • Behir Blue – Platform exclusive
  • Dragonflame Red – Purchase Baldur’s Gate 3 Digital Deluxe Edition
  • Illithid Purple – Purchase Baldur’s Gate 3 Physical Collector’s Edition

Each of the custom skins seems to be linked with a unique purchase. There are a few that are unique to Collector’s Edition versions, but others seem to be a bit unpredictable. The Behir Blue is a bit of a weird one. There are reports of players having BG3 preordered and the full collector’s edition, and getting this skin. But they checked their friends list on Steam, and others in the same situation don’t have Behir Blue. It might be linked to some purchase or Twitch drop but reports are conflicted.

From what I can tell, the Behir Blue skin will unlock when you link your Larian account to the platform you own BG3 on. For PC players, that means linking your Larian account to the Steam platform or the GOG platform, The easiest way to link your Larian account to either Steam or GOG at the moment is to open up the game from either platform, then sign up to Larian or login with your existing account.
