Another day, another aircraft spotlight trailer for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. This time we’re getting a closer look at some staples of the series, the F-22A “Raptor” and the MiG-29A “Fulcrum”.
The F-22A “Raptor” is one of the more recent developments coming from US military projects. This aircraft was developed by Lockheed Martin and was the result of the USAF’s Advanced Tactical Fighter program, meant to create a powerful air superiority fighter to fill a longstanding need for the USAF. The unit carries and individual price tag of $150 million, with a total development and production cost of nearly $67 billion. The plane was eventually stalled in production due to a lack of substantive advancements in Russian and Chinese platforms, which were previously viewed as a threat. The last unit was delivered in 2012, and the F-35 has since largely replaced the need of this particular plane.
On the other end of the world, the MiG-29A “Fulcrum” was at one time the height of Soviet-era fighter technology. The plane was one of many results of the Mikoyan design bureaus efforts to create aircraft capable of competing with US and NATO developments. First introduced for production in the early 1980s, MiG-29 variants are still in production today, with more than 1,600 produced. This particular platform was eventually replaced by heavily updated variants as well as the iconic Su-27.
