This week Bandai Namco Entertainment has really been cranking out the spotlight trailers, showing various well-known aircraft in action for Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. The aircraft combat sim will have an impressive stable of aircraft fulfilling a multitude of roles, and now we’re getting a look at another legendary plane, F-14D Super Tomcat.
The F-14D “Super Tomcat” was the final production variant of F-14 Tomcat designed and built by Grumman Aerospace. The F-14 line was originally introduced as a replacement for the F-111B during the Vietnam War involving the USA, as the F-111B was woefully underpowered and too heavy to act as a sufficient carrier-based interceptor. The F-14 and its variants fulfilled a variety of different roles throughout their more than 30 years of in-flight service with the USAF and other parties. The F-14D was the final version of the aircraft, including new Radar and jamming system upgrades, as well as suite of other technical and mechanical changes, chief among these was an upgrade from existing propulsion systems to the far-superior GE F110-400 electric engines for most of the F-14 fleet. Though the aircraft was officially retired by the US Navy in 2006, the F-14 line remains a favorite among fans of badass planes, mostly because of its service record, but at least partially because of its spotlight role in the film Top Gun.
Check out the newest aircraft spotlight for the F-14D Super Tomcat down below. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown launches in Japan for PS4 and Xbox One on Jan. 17, 2019. It’ll come to North America and Europe on Jan. 18. A PC version will follow on February 1st.
In the case of plane highlights, there were videos for the F-18A , as well as the iconic Mig-31B and a trailer focusing on the A-10C Thunderbolt II. Then there was a trailer showcasing the Eurofighter Typhoon. The most recently released trailer for aircraft in Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown was the Saab Gripen E.
If you want to get a more firm grasp on what the game will be like on release, there’s plenty of gameplay and other info to check out. You might want to check out the Collector’s Edition which features a scale model and the DLC season pass, if you’re a hardcore fan that is. There’s also a ton of screenshots showing gameplay elements and story to take a peek at. There’s also another longer bit of gameplay showing the “Long Day” mission.
