Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s launch trailer ignites nostalgia

New Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Story Trailer

Bandai Namco has just dropped a new launch trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Within it fans will find the quick rundown of the history of the legendary Dragon Ball Z anime, as well as a quick recap of all of the gameplay elements within the new RPG. Yes, you read that right. If you weren’t already aware, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an RPG experience unlike any other DBZ game before it.

As the publisher describes it, the new game is “expansive and accurate retelling of Goku’s life,” which not only takes fans on a journey through the anime, but also fills in some gaps and fleshes things out. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will have plenty of gameplay loops, all built around the core of developing your characters through cooperation to take on more powerful foes.

As you progress through the story, and the various anime arcs up to the Buu saga, the characters you train and fight with will grow stronger. But with all of the side activities, boss battles and training exercises packed into the game, there’s more than one way to do that. The progression system in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is designed so that you should want to do all of these activities, and pair abilities and characters together that make the most sense from a canonical perspective.

There’s also tons of trophies and achievements to earn.

CyberConnect has quite the pedigree in both the anime games and fighting games genre. The developer of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot previously put time in on Bandai Namco’s Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series, and the niche Asura’s Wrath. And with this new title being the biggest and most comprehensive video game retelling of the iconic anime, Dragon Ball Z fans will find plenty to love.

As we saw in the build to launch, there’s a ton to this game. Players will build up Goku and pals through a variety of training exercises, taking on boss fights along the way that challenge you in more ways than one. The unlocking of higher tier stats and Super moves is complex, requiring investing some time in side missions, but not overwhelmingly so. Players can also get temporary buffs through the cooking system. And you’re going to need all the help you can get, as the frantic combat can be pretty tough.

If you’re a brand new player to modern DBZ titles, don’t feel too discouraged, by all of this complexity, it’s fairly easy to grasp. The PC port has all of this, even with modding potential too.
