Horizon Zero Dawn coming To PC

Horizon Zero Dawn

Horizon Zero Dawn is a great game. The adventures of Aloy are equal parts dangerous and whimsical. And apparently, people really liked it for a variety of reasons. Since launching in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn managed to ship 10 million units. Aloy set a new standard for both narrative and gameplay strength with female protagonists in modern games, while avoiding the narrative dissonance pitfall of characters like Lara Croft, and their reluctant psycho gimmick. After all, Horizon Zero Dawn didn’t make a big fuss over killing machines, only to have Aloy rise triumphantly out of a river of blood, unlike a certain other iconic woman in gaming.

It being a PS4 exclusive though has put a damper on the spirits of some gamers. That could be in for a change though, according to a report from Kotaku. Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn will release on PC sometime in 2020, according to those familiar with plans between the developer and Sony. Sources are only listed as “three people familiar with Sony’s plans,” so take all of this with a grain of salt.

Some remain skeptical of these reports, as they have been wrong many times before with other video game ports. The idea that Sony would abandon their exclusive-heavy gaming strategy can be a bit farfetched at times, especially with the PS4 and its rather exceedingly successful push. After all, Sony has shifted more than 106 million units of the console, and it owes a big portion of that success to a powerful and appealing lineup of exclusives.

There is some incentive to port the game as well though. On PC, Horizon Zero Dawn would look amazing. It already had stunning visuals on the PS4, and the move to PC would only strengthen that selling point. Also, it would not be the only PS4 exclusive to do so. Quantic Dream recently brought Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human to the platform, giving the PC a jolt of more narrative strength. The French publisher also detailed a plan to move away form console exclusives with future games. 505 Games also announced that it will work to bring Death Stranding to PC later this year.
