Poffins are the unique stat-affecting item you can use in the new Switch remake to make Pokémon look better. Think of Poffins as vitamins for your Pokémon. These items can be fed to them to increase their Sheen, making them more desirable. Like the Berries also found throughout the franchise, these require a bit of effort to find and make.
These pair with the competitions you can do in-game that offer rewards for getting your Pokémon judged. Each stat can be enhanced, increasing the odds of winning. These items actually use berries to make them. But first, you need to get the Poffin case, and some berries.
How to make Poffins in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Before you can get the Poffin Case, you first need to get to Hearthome City, Get the Poffin Case from the old man inside the Pokémon Fan Club. You can then use that to store all of the Poffins in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that you have.
Take the Poffin case to the woman in the apron inside the Poffin House to begin. She will then ask you what berries you want to use to cook your Poffins. Your goal is to make Poffins that affect each stat, and there are a few different kinds. Here is the breakdown for each stat affected by the different types of Poffin.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Poffin Recipes
Here are the Poffin recipes in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:
Flavor | Effect | Poffin Recipe |
Bitter | Smart | Aguav, Haban, Jaboca, Lum, Nanab, Rawst |
Dry | Beauty | Chesto, Charti, Micle Oran, Pamtre, Wiki |
Sour | Tough | Aspear, Colbur, Lapapa, Rowap, Sitrus, Wepear |
Spicy | Cool | Cheri, Enigma, Figy, Leppa, Pinap, Tanga |
Sweet | Cute | Bluk, Custap, Kasib, Mago, Pecha, Persim |
Mild | Many | Any berries not listed above. |
Different berries result in different types of Poffins. The effect is pretty interesting, but easy to predict. If you want to get a monster with a tough look, you want to feed them lots of Sour Poffins. Be careful not to go too far in one direction though, most judges want a good mix of looks. Be careful not to use two of the same berries in a Poffin. This will result in a Foul Poffin. Let’s say you wanted to make a Bitter Poffin and used two Aguav berries. This would give you a useless Foul Poffin.
Each time you feed a Pokémon a Poffin, its Sheen increases. You can only feed Poffins to a monster while they don’t have maximum Sheen. So that means you need to carefully plan out what Poffins you want to use ahead of time.
There’s a lot to learn about this game. You might want to learn a bit about Affection bonuses. If you want more encounters, try finding some Honey Trees. There have also been some new additions to character customization that you need to know about.
You should also stop over and grab the Explorer’s Kit as well. Now that you have unlocked more of the game go out and have fun. And if you want to trade and battle, you can do that too. You don’t need the NSO Expansion Pack to access online in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
