Niantic has announced the winner of the fan vote for the spotlight Pokémon for Pokémon Go’s June 2020 Community Day. Weedle will be the spotlight this month on June 20 when the event happens. And because of the way the vote went, Gastly will be the focus for July 2020.
Pokémon Go Community Day is a very common occurrence where Niantic asks the fans to choose between a few different monsters. Whoever wins the vote will be the spotlight for that month, with a special day dedicated to increased spawns with higher CPs. There are also better chances of getting a Shiny spawn too. Finally, evolved forms of the Pokémon will have unique moves.
On June 20 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time, players will encounter plenty of Weedle. The Gen 1 bug evolves into Kakuna, then Beedrill. And while many fans, myself included, have a certain fondness for this particular chain, it’s not an exceedingly popular PvE choice. Beedrill could be solid in PvP though. The Beedrill during June 20 will learn Drill Run, a powerful physical move.
Any Trainers out and about during this event will get other bonuses too. Players will notice that incense burn three times longer, increasing spawns. The amount of Stardust given out is also tripled.
The announcement has not made it clear if Trainers will be able to take part from home. It’s likely though that during the ongoing COVID-19 issues, this will be the case. It would be foolish for Niantic to suddenly backtrack on this remote play approach.
