Rocket League going free-to-play

Rocket League is an incredibly fun game. And the sports fusion with racing mechanics is a huge hit and has come to many different platforms. But what if you have friends who want to join in? Do they need their own copies and consoles? No, not at all. You can actually play certain versions of the game in split-screen mode, letting two players game on the same machine. Rocket League is best enjoyed with friends, so why not bring them along for the ride. Both the console and PC variants of the game support this, but there are some restrictions. Keep reading to figure out how to play split-screen Rocket League.

Nintendo Switch

Rocket League on Nintendo Switch can actually support up to four players. Two players can use Joy-Cons, and the rest can make use of Pro controllers or other supported controllers to play.

Using a Pro controller

  1. On Player 2’s controller, press the Plus Button.
  2. Log into the associated Nintendo account for the console
  3. Press down the L and R buttons at the same time on both controllers to assign them to the game

Using a Joy-Con

  1. On Player 2’s controller, press the Minus button.
  2. Log into the associated Nintendo account for the console
  3. Press down SL and SR at the same time on both controllers at the same time.

Xbox One

Xbox One versions of the game can use a Guest account, and don’t need a full profile on the console, to play split-screen Rocket League. That makes this process much easier on Xbox, as other consoles often need dedicated accounts to get into the game. This guest features applies to online play, so that’s great.

  1. On the second controller, log in to a Guest or Xbox account from the main menu.
  2. On Player 2’s controller, press the Menu button to join the party.
  3. Now, just begin the game using the menus.

  2. Sign in that second player to their own PSN account
  3. Once signed in to the PlayStation Network on your second controller, press Options.
  4. Now Player 1 can choose what online mode you want to use.

PC

You will need a dedicated controller for each player in split-screen mode on PC. PC currently does not support Keyboard and Controller being used at the same time.

  1. Once in the main menu, connect both controllers.
  2. On Player 2’s controller, press the equivalent of the Start button. So the Menu button if it’s an Xbox controller, Start if it’s a Steam Controller, and Options if it’s a PS4 controller.
