State of Play Teases Ghost of Tsushima Trailer

State of Play Teases Ghost of Tsushima Trailer

The new game from Sucker Punch Productions, the team behind Sly Cooper and inFAMOUS, Ghost of Tsushima, just got some news this week as part of Sony’s State of Play broadcast. The open-world game tells the story of Jin Sakai, the last samurai on Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. It’s unclear how much this game will lean towards action or RPG elements though, but we’re going to find out shortly.

Geoff Keighley took to Twitter to announce the tease, saying that Ghost of Tsushima would be the longest trailer during the Game Awards this week. This means that fans will have a lot to digest come that time about this new title. We didn’t get much so far, so fans are hopeful for more of an information dump during this new reveal.

Speculation abounds as to how similar this title will be to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. There’s mentions of sword-based combat obviously, as well as character customization and progression. But what has people really looking at the two games in comparison is the mention of a grappling hook maneuvering system. To be fair, I don’t really see how this game could opt for a more difficult experience compared to something like Sekiro. In all honesty it feels like Ghost of Tsushima will be more of a fusion of action combat and Sly Cooper stealth and platforming.

There is one thing that’s clear though. Ghost of Tsushima will push some beautiful visuals. The game will feature a wonderfully detailed lighting engine that casts brilliant shadows through the flora of the levels.

The Game Awards take place on December 12th at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT. You can watch the event live on multiple platforms, including Twitch, Youtube, Facebook Live, and Mixer. So head there if you want to more about this and other games set to be revealed during the event.
