New Resident Evil 2 remake gameplay shows new areas

The Resident Evil 2 Collector’s Edition

Capcom has released a new 16 minute gameplay preview of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. And judging from this new video, all the tension and nuance of the original game is being recreated for a modern audience, with an excellent thematic experience. Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda was on hand to walk gamers through this new gameplay, so let’s take a look.

This new bit of gameplay has a lot of insight into how Capcom has restructured the game from the original to offer a more engaging and modernized experience. From moving NPCs and enemies around, to changing area layouts and items spawns, there’s a fair bit for evern hardcore fans of this game to relearn.

Gameplay has also changed a fair bit from the source material. With players needing to rely much more heavily on situational awareness due to the new third-person camera there’s a much tighter focus on the survival aspect of survival-horror. New and old gamers picking up this remake will find themselves needing to rely on the in-game lighting to see where they’re going in the much more claustrophobic environs of the Raccoon City PD.

If you want to be fully prepared for the renewed adventures of Claire and Leon, you might want to check out some gory gameplay footage. Or you could check in on the Collector’s Edition of the game that features a 12″ statue.
