Mysterious Pokemon Go tease finally revealed, say hello to Meltan

New Pokémon Discovered: Introducing Meltan!

Nintendo has unveiled a new Steel-type Pokemon that was recently teased by Niantic during the Chikorita Community Day event that was held recently. And although the version caught by trainers during that event was just a Ditto in disguise, it’s officially been revealed what this new Pokemon is.

Despite initial thoughts that it was some kind of test for a future update, or possibly a bug, it turns out that’s it’s a previously unseen Pokemon called Meltan. We do know that this is apparently some kind of legendary Pokemon, but everything else about it is very mysterious.

Professor’s Willow and Oak were on hand to discuss the new Pokemon species in a new trailer, check that out down below. There’s also an official description courtesy of the developers. The trailer teases that this new species may have something to do with the upcoming Pokemon Let’s Go games for the Nintendo Switch.

Meltan is a Steel-type Pokémon with a body made mostly of liquid metal, which makes its shape very fluid. This Pokémon can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its body. Meltan can generate electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and for an attack it fires from its eye.

Name: Meltan
Category: Hex Nut Pokémon
Height: 0’08”
Weight: 17.6 lbs.
Type: Steel

And according to the official announcement, we can guess that an upcoming in-game event in Pokemon Go will feature new Research Goals around Meltan.

Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices. Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee release on November 16 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
