Microsoft Studios has acquired a pair of legendary game studios, as they have announced at their X018 event this week. One of the pair is Obsidian Entertainment. The other studio is inXile Entertainment, makers of Wasteland 2 and The Bard’s Tale 4.

Obsidian of course is known far and wide for their RPG releases. With Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic II being some of their standout titles.

And with several recent releases and an upcoming release, inXile Entertainment will be a strong contender for a profit-maker for Microsoft. For example, The Bard’s Tale 4 launched in mid-September. Wasteland 3 is expected in 2019. These games will make a fair bit of a stir among genre fans.

For those keeping count, there’s a total of 13 companies that have been acquired by Microsoft within the games industry. At E3 this past year, Microsoft announced they were working to pick up Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, Playground Games and The Initiative.

Both companies released special video messages announcing the sales to their fans. You can find these videos down below.
