Larian Studios and Logic Artists have announced Divinity: Fallen Heroes, a new strategy title in the long-running mix of RPG and strategy titles that is the Divinity games.
Divinity: Fallen Heroes includes a bunch of new and returning gameplay mechanics to the Divinity franchise. And as Larian wants to make this one of the best strategy titles in the franchise, the developer is looking to expand all of the gameplay loops to create a really impressive singleplayer and multiplayer game.
The actual strategic layers in this new title are a bit of new territory for the fantasy franchise, as there’s more in common with XCOM than there is previous games in the Divinity canon. The layers of adversity built into the gameplay manifest in a few different ways, but the most obvious is the inclusion of hardcore death mechanics. Once a character dies in this game, there is no bringing them back.
For one thing, Divinity: Fallen Heroes includes more than 60 missions, each with their own objectives and layouts which challenges players in new ways. For example, Oil, Fire, Ice, Water, Sulfurium and Poison surfaces often litter maps, restricting movement or unit abilities. The maps also often include other hidden dangers.
But don’t worry, Larian is including 30+ unit and hero types to offer players in Divinity: Fallen Heroes plenty of options to take on one difficulty or another. You can also choose from 200 different techs to augment your units with, even gunpowder-based weaponry, a first for the series.
As players explore and build their armies, the challenge ramps up, and as you uncover new lands, you’ll also reveal dark secrets and terrible horrors. Are you ready to take them on?
To show off the new game set in their deep and incredibly engaging universe, Larian put together a new trailer, which can be seen below.
