Langrisser I&II gets new trailer for Switch and PS4 releases

Chara-Ani has a new preview up for Langrisser I & II, the upcoming remake of the classic franchise heading to Japan in April.

For those not familiar with this more obscure franchise let me clue you in. Langrisser is a long-running JRPG and strategy franchise which dates all the way back to 1991. The series has had multiple games, all based in the same fantasy setting, with much of the same tactical RPG gameplay running throughout the entire experience. The series has had entries land on the Super Famicom, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PC and many more platforms over the years. Fans fell in love with the combination of campy characters and interesting gameplay loop over the years, and now they’re getting a chance to relive some of that nostalgia with new ports of Langrisser I & II for the PS4 and Switch

These new remakes will feature fully redone voiceover work, as well as reworked graphics and UI, giving the entire affair a much more modern feel. For those who prefer the older art style by Satoshi Urushihara, there will be a DLC which will also be available as a first-print bonus that lets you switch between both styles at any time. So if you’re looking for the original version, or as close to it as you can get, choose the Classic Mode.

Now back to this new trailer. In terms of content, it’s mostly a recap of what’s being included in the new remakes. The gameplay has also been tweaked a fair bit from the original versions, probably to appeal to new players, as these games are notoriously difficult and sometimes unbalanced. That’s apparently been fixed by tweaking unit stats across the board.

All in all, it seems like Chara-ani and Extreme are doing a fine job realizing one of the more interesting strategy RPGs for a new audience.

Langrisser I & II releases for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan on April 18, 2019. A demo is currently available in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Check out the new trailer for the game down below.
