Nintendo has released a new event into its biggest recent Switch title, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The event is built around the labor-focused May Day, and has a special event that you can work through if you’re smart and strong. The core of the event is a new island that’s dominated by this great and mysterious maze, filled with different prizes and challenges.
Login to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on May 1 to begin. You can time-travel to May 1 if you want, although this will only work offline.
The key to unlocking the event is the airport. Speak to tom Nook first when you login during the event to begin. You should get a notice in-game when you login to notify you of the new May Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Speak to Tom Nook in Resident Services to get your May Day ticket first. He will ask you a few basic questions about May Day.
Go to the airport and speak to Orville to start your May Day Island Tour. You will need to keep the Ticket in your inventory and then select “Use May Day Ticket” when talking to Orville.
The ticket and rewards for the May Day event are around for only a very limited time. The May Day Ticket will only be in Animal Crossing New Horizons until May 7. The main event itself runs in-game until May 4. If you login and begin the event before then, you can take on the special unique maze.
Make your way through the maze picking up the twigs, stones, and apples on your path as often as you can. Upon consuming the apples you’ll have the strength to destroy rocks with an axe or remove trees with a shovel, thereby unblocking your path and letting you progress further into the maze. The twigs and stones you collect can be fashioned into tools once you reach a workbench. Only craft necessary tools as resources are in short supply. Keep an eye on your food and other resources and only use them when you have to.
Eventually you will come upon Rover, who has a special reward for you at the exit of the maze. Once you complete the May Day maze and speak to Rover, the event is complete and you will be sent back home. You cannot return to the island maze for May Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons after this.
