How to make bread in Icarus

Icarus Guides

Icarus is a new survival game that occupies a similar genre space to the likes of ARK: Survival Evolved. You get plopped onto a remote location and have to survive. You need to build shelter, find food and more. But when you get to more advanced tools and shelter, you need more than just sticks and plant fibers. And that applies to more than just tools. There’s much better food than cooked meat and fish.

The game includes a few different kinds of advanced foods. There are, of course, more advanced food items you can make. These late-game food items are much more powerful in terms of keeping you alive.

The first thing you need to do is reach level 20 to unlock both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 Research Trees. There’s a lot of items you need to unlock, here’s the breakdown. Bread dough decays quickly and cannot be preserved in an Ice Box or Refrigerator, so it’s kind of limited in long-term use.  But it does have one very interesting use. The Flatbread and Bread in Icarus increase your maximum health, rather than healing existing health. This is great to help you tank more powerful enemies.

Flour requires blueprint points in Tier 2 of the Tech Tree for both Herbalism Bench and Mortar and Pestle, where it can be prepared. So be sure to research the right components first.

  • Unlock the Mortar and Pestle research (Requires 4 Silica and 12 Stone).
  • Unlock Kitchen Bench, Gas Stove, Biofuel Composter, and Biofuel Can in the Tier 3 Tech Tree.
  • Craft Flour from 10x Wheat with the Mortar and Pestle.
  • Combine the Flour with Yeast to make Bread Dough in the Kitchen Bench. You can omit the Yeast to make Flatbread.
  • Place the Dough into the Gas Stove to make Bread.

The Gas Stove requires the following items:

  • 30 Refined Wood
  • 20 Epoxy
  • 4 Copper Nail
  • 24 Steel Ingot
  • 8 Steel Screw

The Kitchen Bench requires the following items:

  • 30 Refined Wood
  • 8 Iron Ingot
  • 20 Epoxy
  • 20 Copper Nail

All those resources make this a very intensive and late-game item. You need to have plenty of Tier 2 and Tier 3 items researched and built to make this supply chain function. Any early-game players want to focus on finding and preserving Meat and Fish first. Getting a Refridgerator or Ice Box is much more useful than all this bread infrastructure.

The one upside is that Flatbread Dough can be baked in any fire, oven or stove. sO you can just make that when you get to level 20 and Tier 2, rather than the Gas Stove.

If you would prefer to learn, we have plenty of guides about this game. If you want to get your base set up, build that shelter. There’s some iron and steel you also want to make, as you get later into the game. Other advanced items like bread and tree sap are useful as well. If you don’t want to mess with that, try out some cheats to make things easier.
