The Assess Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the most useful elements of the entire system surrounding the Materia. The Materia system in both the original game and the new remake has tons of versatility and usefulness. If you want extra damage against a boss, using the Materia that adds damage their weak to is a huge help.
This tool unlocks a wealth of knowledge about the enemies you face throughout the game. Using the Materia will let you know weaknesses and resistances for the enemy for a start. But beyond that you can even get a detailed breakdown of all the stats relating to that enemy. That means that the experience points, AP, Gil, items it drops, stealable items and all the other relevant rewards can be unlocked by a simple Assess.
During Chapter 3 of Final Fantasy VII Remake, you will meet the ever-useful Chadley. Seriously, this guy is the best person in your universe when playing this game. Not only is he the key to unlocking powerful Summons like Shiva, and not only is the way to respec your characters but now he also has a wealth of powerful Materia to tap into. For the Assess Materia, you need to complete the Chadley’s Report sidequest for him.
Chadley’s Report becomes available when you’ve talked to Chadley for the first time during the “Problem Solving” Main Objective. You will need to head to the Sector 7 Slums and use the new Materia to cast Assess against two different types of enemies. Do this and return to Chadley. He will reward you the Assess Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake and 500 Gil.
This is, of course, just one of the many Materia in the game that’s incredibly useful. And you will want to constantly be trying out new Materia combinations in your gear throughout the course of the game to find the best combos.
