With the beginning of the new month, there’s a new batch of bugs and other spawns coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. One of the more hard-to-find spawns is the Atlas Moth, a beautiful creature with some very specific spawning conditions. Players can use this insect to craft a few different unique items, so finding a few is pretty worth it. Here’s how to find the Atlas Moth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Atlas Moths only spawn overnight, between the times of 7pm until 4am. Look at various fruit trees like Pine Trees or Palm Trees to have the best chance of finding them. Once you find them though, be very careful. These insects spook very easily, and the slightest movement can send them flying away. The sad part is, there isn’t really a solid technique to catching them, you just have to take things slow and hope.
When you do come across one, get out your net and hold A, approaching the Moth as slowly as you can. You will want to only move when the Atlas Moth moves and flutters its wings. When it stops moving, you stop walking too. As you get close, hit A to grab the bugger.
And just like other bugs in this game, the Atlas Moth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will only spawn during a certain time of year in-game. The special spawn will appear on islands from April to September in the games of Northern Hemisphere players.
