Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: Where to Find Unown

Where to Encounter Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released on November 19 and almost a month later, players everywhere are continuing to search for their favorite Pokémon within the games. Here is how to find one of the most mysterious Pokémon of all, Unown.

Although Unown doesn’t have any known evolutions, the odd Pokémon can take on 28 different shapes. 26 which derive from the Latin alphabet and two which consist of a question mark and an exclamation point. Unown was originally introduced in Pokémon’s second generation and is a Psychic-Type. All 28 versions of Unown are indeed able to be caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. To do so, players must travel far into the Solaceon Ruins.

Unown Locations in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Located between Route 209 and 210, players can encounter Unown as soon as they reach Solaceon Town. With regular story progressions, arriving at the quaint town happens fairly early on in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The Solaceon Ruins are located east of the town and it is here that players can really catch them all, all 28 forms of Unown that is. The Ruins can be a bit tricky as inside, trainers will be met with a vast maze and only one path will lead to the other side.

Each room of the Solaceon Ruins has Unown-style symbols on the walls that indicate which path players should take. The symbols spell out phrases such as “Top Left” or “Lower Right,” directing trainers where to go. Ignoring the wall-written hints leads players to dead-end rooms that only contain a single rock. The key to catching every form of Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is to visit every single room in the Solaceon Ruins, even the dead-end ones.

How to Catch Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Of the 28 forms of Unown in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, six are the easiest and they just so happen to spell out F-R-I-E-N-D. These six Unown can be found individually in the large rooms of the Ruins. The next ones are found in the dead-end rooms, meaning trainers will need to tediously run around those small spaces until a wild Unown appears. Using a Repeat Ball is highly recommended as they offer the highest chance at catching each mysterious iteration of the Pokémon.

Catching the final two Unown, the question mark, and the exclamation point requires first finding the previous 26. Once that is done, players will need to head to Route 214, located south of Veilstone City. To the west of the route, trainers will find the Ruin Maniac’s Cave. Inside, the Maniac can be found digging through the rock. He will only stop when the first 26 Unowns have been caught, which will reveal a hidden chamber of the Soloceon Ruins. In this chamber, trainers can catch the final Unowns, the question mark, and the exclamation point, and finally, have a complete set in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

One of the most enjoyable parts of any Pokémon game is attempting to catch them all and fill that Pokédex. Catching all 28 Unown is a big step to doing so. Play Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on Nintendo Switch now.
