Halo 2 Master Chief Collection public testing is live on PC

Halo 2 Master Chief Collection

A new announcement has revealed that Halo 2 and Halo 2 Anniversary will soon come to PC as part of the Xbox Insider app. The community coordinator on the project Tyler Davis has announced that the Halo 2 Master Chief Collection public test will begin soon.

The announcement came on Twitter saying that “all Ring 3 blockers have been resolved at this time for Halo 2 and Halo 2: Anniversary flighting to begin on Friday, 4/17.” Going further, the announcement said that invites will come soon, “We will let folks know when buttons are being pressed for invites to roll out. Stay tuned to get tactical Marines!”

For those confused by the announcement, let’s go over some vocabulary.  When the announcement said that “all Ring 3 blockers have been resolved,” meaning it’s now ready for the public to test out. Ring 3 is a testing term for technical issues or other limitations preventing a wider public rollout of a new release.

To join the public flight, you need to sign up as a member of the Halo Insider Program. After entering your Microsoft account information, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding both your history with the franchise and about the technical specs of your rig. The developer will also ask for a DxDiag text file that shows your system specifications in detail, so keep that in mind.

It looks like 343 Industries will be looking to test a variety of “key performance indicators” as part of the insider test period. Being in the program won’t guarantee you a spot though, so don’t think you can game the system and get in.

The last iteration of the legendary shooter franchise on PC was Halo: Reach on PC via the most recent update to the Master Chief Collection back in December. The collection of various Halo titles has offered PC and Xbox gamers a visit back into the iconic war between the UNSC and the Covenant. The new visuals and revamped gameplay have compelled millions to jump back into the multiplayer as well, leading to the Master Chief Collection becoming a consistent top-seller on Steam.
