PlayStation 4 version of H1Z1 launches next week

H1Z1 Battle Royale PS4 Launch

H1Z1 has had a rocky road over the past few years, but the devs have been working very hard to right the ship and bring the shooter back from the dead.

Part of that push includes the launch of the PS4 version of the zombie games, which is coming next week. The game from Daybreak will launch as H1Z1: Battle Royale, and since you might be wondering what’s changed, here’s a quick-ish rundown.

The first few months of the original H1Z1 saw it quickly develop into a titanic survival game that was fiercely competing with the likes of DayZ to be king of the corpse pile. Sadly for that original version, the emergence of the Battle Royale genre signaled a huge shift in the interests of gamers, and zombie games like H1Z1 took a huge hit in terms of players.

Over the next few months, Daybreak quietly worked to bring players back, but their efforts felt like they were always one step behind the competition. The original game split into two different titles. With H1Z1 becoming H1Z1: King of the Hill and H1Z1: Just Survive. The two titles split again in 2017, with H1Z1: King of the Hill becoming simply H1Z1, and Just Survive becoming its own game.

H1Z1: Battle Royale has been in an open beta since May 2018, and the experience has been polished quite a bit in those few months. The game has been through three “seasons” worth of post-launch content, each adding new vehicles, weapons and other items with every update. The developers even added a unique Auto Royale mode to drum up hype for the launch of the revamped Battle Royale title.

This new launch also brings with the Ps4 release of Season Three items and a load of bug fixes and performance patches.

“We believe we’ve found the right balance for battle royale on console and players have responded positively to our reimagining of H1Z1. We will continue to refine the game based on feedback from Open Beta to ensure the best experience possible for our actively growing community,” said H1Z1 Producer Terrence Yee.
