Nintendo introduced then almost immediately ended user reviews on their site

Nintendo Switch

Gamers were immediately excited when they noticed that Nintendo had added the ability for users to review games on Nintendo.com, the official company website. But Nintendo has seemingly backpedaled a bit just days after implementing the feature. With the extensive library of games that Nintendo has on platforms like the 3DS and Switch, a lot of gamers and fans are hopeful that the system will return soon.

Users could briefly leave one-to-five star ratings, as well as input tags to identify game aspects like “Challenging” and “Great sound”. Users also had the ability to leave a variety of comments. These reviews have now disappeared and are replaced by a section called “Customer Review status” which states:

Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality. We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided. We appreciate the positive response and thank the reviewers who provided such thoughtful commentary on the games.

Nintendo subsequently provided Kotaku with a statement on the decision, saying that the review feature was a “trial”:

Nintendo.com recently offered a trial customer review feature to let users share feedback about Nintendo Switch games on our website. The response has been positive, and Nintendo appreciates the time and effort that reviewers put into their thoughtful commentary on the games. Nintendo has removed this feature as we evaluate the future of the ratings functionality on Nintendo.com. We have no estimate on when an update will be provided on the status of this initiative, but we appreciate the enthusiasm shown for the trial.”

It’s not that surprising that Nintendo would pull the reviews feature so quickly, given that Nintendo has a history of being very experimental with its games and their related features. Hopefully the feature returns, and sticks around, sometime in the near future.
