Bandai Namco had even more SoulCalibur VI news this week during Gamescom 2018. This latest announcement, and accompanying trailer, concerns that “Libra of Soul” story mode for the game.
In Libra of Soul, players must race to beat out other fighters trying to collect Soul Edge shards. Since as any fan knows, Soul Edge and it’s remains are incredibly powerful tools of chaos and corruption, this will be no easy task.
The mode itself feels like a melding of previous singleplayer story modes from other SoulCalibur console games, combined with the Conquest Mode from certain arcade versions. This is because the new story mode is essentially a tiered online mode where a created character takes on both stock characters and community-created fighters. This is particularly exciting to me personally as I wasted so much time and money with that Conquest Mode when I was younger.
There’s an impressive level of customization here as well. Players can create their dream fighter from over a thousand unique combinations. Customization options include 16 races, multiple character sizes, unique facial features, hair styles, tons of clothes and other items, and your weapon. Of course, you also get to choose your fighting style. I fully expect the community to drop custom versions of missing characters like fans often do with avatar creation in series like the WWE games.
All in all, it’s pretty damn cool, and makes this a much more likely pickup for any fan of the franchise.
In other SoulCalibur VI news, Bandai Namco recently announced Tira being added as a DLC character. But Ivy and Zasalamel are joining the fray as well. You can check out more of the roster over here. But it’s not just new and old characters either, the game will feature a much more expansive singleplayer mode compared to previous years.
