The Bug Off in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a new event added to the game that’s intended to be a friendly competition to see how good your hunting skills are. With all of the new Summer fun to be had, there’s plenty of reasons to head out into the sunshine, at least on your little island paradise. And while you’re out and about, try catching some of the bugs and fish for this month. You might also want to test out the new diving and swimming as well.
The Bug Off will run on different dates for each of the two hemispheres. Players will be able to engage with the new content on the following dates in the Northern Hemisphere:
- June 27
- July 25
- Aug. 22
- Sept. 26
What is a Bug Off in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
The Bug Off is a simple event, you go around and catch bugs. The Bug Off is a competition to catch the most bugs you can within a three-minute span. And since it’s purely about volume, the value or rarity of the bug does not matter. Players will be awarded points based solely on the number of bugs they catch. Each bug is worth one point with a two point bonus if you catch three or more bugs.
There are also some bonuses involved for taking the event on with your pals. Based on the number of bugs caught by all players,
- If players catch 5 to 9 Bugs, all players earn 5 Bonus points.
- If players catch 10 to 14 Bugs, all players earn 7 Bonus points.
- If players catch 15+ Bugs, all players earn 10 Bonus points.
How to join a Bug Off
The first requirement to take part in a Bug Off in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to have your Resident Services upgraded. You will have that done, and then Flick will show up on the fourth Saturday of each month, on the dates listed above, to offer the event. The event runs from 9 am to 6 pm, and you can join in for free the first time. Each successive run costs 500 Bells.

Every 10 points traded in will earn one reward from the list below. Flick hang around your island for a short time after the event ends, usually departing at 8 pm, to allow you to turn points into him after it ends.
Players who earn up 100 points, 200 points, and 300 points by turning them in to Flick will earn special rewards as well. Here’s the list of rewards for the Bug Off:
