Developer System Era has announced the PS4 launch date for their space exploration sim, Astroneer. Astroneer will launch on PlayStation 4 on November 15th. The game has been around in some form since 2015, when it was first announced, but now it’s making the jump to an alien platform.
For those who didn’t know, Astroneer is a game all about being an astronaut, but it’s not as simple as all that. Sure, you have to explore and gather resources, but there’s so much more to the experience than just simple base building.
Using procedural generation, the developers have given gamers a chance to explore far-flung planets in the 25th century, something that’s not too common in games. According to the team, it’s like Minecraft with a message, and they built it because they wanted to “reflect the legacy and future of human space exploration, inspiring a sense of wonder and reverence for a beautiful universe.” The game is also amazing with friends, as exploring alien planets filled with random bits of life can be really chaotic, especially if you have that one bumbling friend.
Pre-orders are live now via PSN, and those who take them up on the offer get a free premium skin for the console. There’s also PC and Xbox One versions of the title if you happen to be on those trains and don’t want to wait a couple of months. And yes, the PS4 release will have all of the content from the previous iterations.
