Konami released some new screenshots and details for Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution in a recent run of V Jump, and now that info has appeared online.
Judging from these new shots, which can be found at the end of post, it looks like initial speculation was spot on in terms of what this game actually is. Turns out that Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution is a revamped port of the 2015/2016 Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist that brought a fresh dose of dueling and anime action to the PS4, Xbox One and PC. It appears that, like it’s predecessor, Link Evolution will feature a full card list from the physical card game, as well as a story mode based on certain arcs in the anime. It also appears that the card lists and story mode have been updated with entirely new content for this Switch port.
This is easy to figure out because of the inclusion of Link Summons, a mechanic introduced only recently to the physical game and anime materials, which means that this new version will surpass the Arc-V story of the original game, and now will progress into the VRAINS content. A Link Summon is the act of Special Summoning a Link Monster from the Extra Deck. It involves “paying” a Link Rating cost by discarding face-up monsters, so it shares a fair bit of functionality in the card game with other Special Summons.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution has only been announced for the Nintendo Switch. As of the time of this writing, it’s unknown when and if the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will receive an update bringing it up to the current version. No word on the PC version either. It’s possible that paid DLC could be released for the older game to bring it up to date, but no confirmation of that speculation has been made.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution currently has a release date of April 25, 2019.
