How to hire companions in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord

Guide to factions in Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord

When you first begin Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, you’re going to be given a handful of quests to complete to begin your journey. One of the first quests is to find and speak to 10 nobles in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord, then various other quests get thrown at you. Another early quest is basically a tutorial for how to hire companions in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord.

To hire a companion, you will need to head to the larger settlements. When you’re first starting out with recruiting, aim for castles, these have the tavern district you need to head for. Double click on the town to enter, then click on the “Go to the tavern district” option. From there, choose to visit the tavern itself.

The first companion you hire for your army will cost you  1,000 Denar. You will also have to pay out regular wages to your recruits, so you constantly need cash coming in. As you hire more companions, especially higher-level ones with better skills, they will cost more. So if you want a great way to make money, aim for taking and selling prisoners. For this first quest, have at least 2,000 Denar in the bank and it will speed up the process of completing it.

If you feel the need to bypass this whole grind, feel free to cheat in the game too.

Once you have this quest completed, it’s time to head out into the world and build your reputation with the various factions in the game. Do more quests for local nobles, scout out various small villages for raiding, and hunt some bandits for easy gear and Denar. Be careful though, it’s a dangerous world in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. Never forget the tools and tricks these early tutorial missions give you, they will be needed throughout the entire course of the game.
