The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a legendary RPG. CD PROJEKT RED really hit it out of the park. And if you’re a fan of the genre or the series, you owe it to yourself to play it. There’s also plenty of replayability in the game thanks to the wide array of story choices and builds you can make. And now, you can even get it for free on the PC. This opens up tons of potential for modding and nonsense, so why not do it.
There is one major catch, you need to already own the game on another platform. Be it on consoles or another PC storefront, you need to already own the game to get it free via GOG.
To get the free game, there are some steps involved. You need to have the 2.0 branch of GOG Galaxy already installed on your machine and linked to your GOG site account. From there, head over to the GOG launcher. When it loads up, click the “Add games & friends” dropdown at the top. Then click “Connect Platforms” to open up the window you need. Log into the account that has the game on it an wait.
You will then get a banner popup on your GOG launcher that notifies you of the claimable game. Click “Claim” to get your free copy.
The version of the game you get on GOG depends on which variant of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt you already have. So if you have the base game, you get that version via GOG. If you have the GOTY variant, that’s the one you get.
If you’re on the Switch version though, you’re out of luck. CD PROJEKT has only allowed those with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, Origin, and EGS copies to claim a free version on GOG. There are extra limitations as well. For example, if you own the game on Xbox One, you must link your GOG and Microsoft accounts together on the GOG site. The same is true for any other version, so be prepared for that. You will also be limited to one free copy of the game regardless of how many copies you own on other platforms.
The offer has an expiration date, so hurry. You can claim it between now and June 23 at 12 pm BST/4 am PDT.
And if you’re just getting into The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and finding things a bit too hard, namely on the money front, there is a way to help. Try out the infinite loot glitch that still works in the game. Sadly the hilarious cow glitch no longer works as intended. Although if you want to die horribly, go ahead and try it.
