How to transfer Hitman 2 progress into Hitman 3

Hitman 3

If you’re a long-time fan of Agent 47 and his adventures, you probably want to pick up where you left off. The new Hitman 3 gives you that option, although the process is a bit annoying. Players will first have to buy some DLC to get the old content into the new game, including the old maps, and then go through the process of having to transfer Hitman 2 progress into Hitman 3.

Here is how you carry over your Hitman 2 progress into Hitman 3.

There are limitations though. For example, you can carry the Xbox One version of a save for an older save over the Xbox One or Series X version of Hitman 3, but not PlayStation 4 or 5. You also have to own the Legacy DLC pack to unlock the older maps in the new game. If you don’t have that, the progress and unlocks from the older game won’t mean anything and cannot be carried over. So make sure to buy that before embarking n this process.

Create an IOI account

This is the first step to move Hitman 2 progress into Hitman 3. You need to the  IO Interactive website via a web browser and open up the profile page. When you register your new account, you will be sent an e-mail to activate said account. Do that and then get ready to proceed. Be mindful of the fact that you must link your old and new accounts together, or you will lose your old save game progress when you start Hitman 3.

Once the account is active, head over to the profile webpage and open up your account. It may take some time to load, just be patient. Once the profile opens, click the Settings tab and look for the Linked Accounts section. Any linked accounts will be listed there.

You will need to link your IOI account during this step, and link it to the account that has the save from Hitman 2 on it. When you start playing the new game, the saves should be synchronized and you’re good to go, here’s how.

You need to head into the Profile section, click Settings, and then update Linked Accounts by clicking add new. You will be prompted to login to the accounts to link them together, so have your authentication details and any 2FA systems handy,

When you get through the prompts and enable your accounts for linking, you need to check the Status page for the link itself, on the profile. That sounds confusing, but it’s very simple. Just check the profile and look at the accounts linking section and you should eventually see a status page that shows any active links. Even if they say “Error”, you are still in the queue to be linked. Once the account link lists as “Finished”, you’re done.

As of now, you can link up an Epic Games Store, Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation Network, Steam, or Xbox Live account. Keep in mind that you can seemingly only link one account of each type of the IOI main account. The IOI linking does not support the Stadia version of the game.

Also, the launch has put a severe strain on the servers, so expect issues to pop up.  IO Interactive tweeted that the company is working on a fix.

What is carried over?

The save transfer process will bring over all the maps from the last game, and any completion rewards you got on them. Your player profile, XP rank, location mastery levels, location mastery unlocks and more will be carried over. Challenges and other details for supported maps will also be brought over, as will any suits or cosmetics from elusive targets, tHese will then be usable in the new game.

Some things that won’t be transferred over are in-progress missions. So if you have a save point in an old map, don’t expect it to be loaded into the new version. Also, you cannot move anything over from the 2016 reboot of the franchise, all of this only applies to Hitman 2.
