How to disenchant items in Minecraft

How to make an armor stand in Minecraft

Enchanted items in Minecraft are very powerful and valuable. If they’re combat-based enchantments, you can easily overcome tough foes with minimal effort. You could also really speed up crafting and gathering, which is great for this game. And given how much of both of those things you will be doing, you’re probably going to need to enchant and disenchant items in Minecraft a lot. Here’s what you need to know about the latter of those two options.

How to disenchant items in Minecraft

To start the process, you need to make a Grindstone to break down items. The Grindstone in Minecraft is key to disenchanting, and it’s very simple to make. You can only use the Grindstone to break down magical items that don’t have a curse applied. And if you’re in a hurry, these can be found natively in villages as well as crafted.

You can take any uncursed item and place it into the receptacle on the top slot of the left side. Just right-click or otherwise interact with the block, place the enchanted item inside, and it will be broken down and have the enchantment removed. You will also get a cache of XP for your trouble, depending on the value of the enchantments. But That’s not all, as you can also repair items with the Grindstone.

By placing two of the same item into the two slots on the left, you can then receive an item with durability repaired in return. Keep in mind that doing this with the Grindstone will remove the enchantment. An anvil will repair your items as well, but can also rename them. So when building your base, make sure to have both of these.

How to make a Grindstone

  • 2 x sticks
  • 2 x wooden planks
  • 1 x stone slab

Place the sticks to the left and right corners of the top row in the crafting table. Then put the planks in the left and right of the middle row, beneath the sticks. The stone slab goes in the middle of the top row. Once you have it crafted you can begin to disenchant items in Minecraft.

The process can be done for as long as you have an enchanted item to work with. This makes it a pretty solid source of experience in the midgame and later.
